NYU & Alumni - Joining Together to Make a Difference

Becky Heritage, a ProPeru alumni, is returning this January '08 to work her passion as an appointed Health project coordinator for the NYU Steinhardt and Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Group. A total of 147 scholars and 20 ProPeru staff, like Becky, are putting all of their efforts into a ten-day intensive organized group project that will:

* build a total of 3 new bathrooms
* Install 300 new clean burning stoves in local homes
* plant 900 - 1,200 trees in the local area
* provide 2 intensive public health awareness campaigns

This effort will reach three Andean Villages located just outside of Urubamba, Peru in the Sacred Valley and Cusco, Peru. " I am looking forward to returning to the ProPeru team in January 2008 to facilitate coordination of the activities with volunteers from New York University. I am particularly excited about working within specific communities to implement more comprehensive health campaigns," Miss Heritage.

Becky Heritage worked as a ProPeru NGO summer health volunteer (2006) and volunteered at Prodifam, a women’s health and family planning clinic, and at MINSA’s medical clinic in Belenpampa, Cusco. The dynamic experiences that ProPeru has given her have ultimately influenced her career goal of becoming of physician assistant specializing in under served communities in developing countries.
